E8 – Worship
“On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.” (Matthew II, 11)
The house and the surroundings are purely Bolivian. Joseph who is not an elder kindly invites people to visit the child. However, he focuses more on the humble shepherds. Delhez’s dog Cocoliche (see also S25), who was almost as well known as Delhez himself during his time in Bolivia and Argentina, also played host and chose the crippled boy as his invitee. The star is surrounded by angels sitting on the collapsed roof.
This work was made in Cocaraya (Bolivia) between the 8th of May and 27th of June 1934.
