E61 – The lunatic
“Whenever it seizes him, it throws him to the ground. He foams at the mouth, gnashes his teeth and becomes rigid. I asked your disciples to drive out the spirit, but they could not.” “You unbelieving generation,” Jesus replied, “how long shall I stay with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring the boy to me.” (Mark IX, 18 -19)
At the center of the engraving is a dog howling at the moon. That is quite logical because in the long lying s-shape at the ends are on the one hand the lunatic, who is restrained by a man in order to be able to hand him over to exorcists (including a priest) and on the other side Christ who bitterly is because of weak faith. The gestures of the crowd portray the different reactions. In the farthest one can see a kind of landscape with the moon.
